The 1865 New York State Census is stored at the Warren County Archives, Lake George, NY.  A copy of the original documents were photographed by the Historical Society of the Town of Bolton.  All care and accuracy were taken in transcribing these records.  As the original data were handwritten, errors caused by handwriting interpretation, legibility or condition of the census sheet are possible.

1865 Census Schedules
The 1865 New York State Census enumerator listed by name all individuals . The advantage of searching this census is the amount of genealogical information that can be obtained. 28 questions were asked for every individual. Unlike the Federal census each individuals County of birth (if born in New York State) are included.  Taken near the end of the Civil War this census offers a glimpse into the life of War Veterans.  The farm schedule is extensive.
Truman N. Thomas was the appointed enumerator for the Town of Bolton.  The census was scribed by Mr. Thomas between June 5 and June 23, 1865.  He worked six days a week (not on Sundays).  Information given should have been how things were as of June 1, 1865.  In other words, someone who died June 2 would be counted on the census as living, as they were still living on June 1.  The census was finalized and notarized by George P. Wait, notary public 27 June 1865.  The 1865 NY State census contained 10 separate schedules.
